Line Contour

For this assignment, I chose 5 objects that relate to my favorite hobbies. I chose an electric guitar, an amp, my favorite journal, and a pen and pencil. I chose to use these objects as analogies to each other; without an amp, you can’t play the electric; without a pencil or pen, you can not journal. Overall, my favorite of the 5 sketches was the continuous 1 point line sketch. I enjoyed playing with repetition with this project. The placement of the 5 objects creates harmony and balance as they are all placed in the middle.   The utilization of an odd number of objects and their arrangement creates a sense of proportion and contributes to the harmony of the artwork.

Color and Shape

Josef Albers inspired this assignment. The goal of the assignment was to create threeartboards with abstract shapes that are in conjunction with the transparency of colors. I wantedto experiment with different shapes and color arrangements in this assignment. For my firstboard, I chose to use circular shapes that overlapped with each other. I chose a triad of colorsthat were aesthetically pleasing. The contrast of the overlapping shapes points emphasis to thecenter where all three circles intersect. I chose three circles because art is more appealing in 3’s. For my second artboard, I wanted to mimic the layers of a geode; I picked a blue and tanc olor scheme to complement the light tan background. I played with the transparencies of thestars to create the final image. Finally for my third art board, I created cloud shapes withdifferent transparencies. I noticed my pattern was starting to look like a face, so I positioned thedifferent clouds to make the image more clear. In conclusion, I enjoyed creating art that playswith colors as well as transparencies.

Self Portrait

For this assignment, I chose to use one of my high school senior portrait pictures. I love the burnt yellow of my dress. I chose to incorporate the sublime image for many reasons. First of all, it is my favorite band. Second, it has yellow-orange sun rays that would complement my dress. I also made the sublime image without tracing and it is one of my favorite pieces of art I have ever made. I placed the sun rays around my drawn self portrait hoping it would draw emphasis to my artwork and highlight it. I chose to keep my signature small in the bottom of the corner because it took away from the aesthetic of the artwork as a whole. I used a funky font which reminded me of sublime; it is one the band has used before.

Lasercut

For this project, I chose to create my own archetype of a Haida orca whale. I havealways been intrigued by the Haida culture and art. Their symbolism and spiritualism is so amazing and their art style is heavily influenced by it. In Haida culture, the orca whalerepresents family and protection and they believe humans are reincarnated into familiesbecause orcas travel in pods and are so family oriented. I created my own version of Haida art. Iplayed with repetition and symbolism to create a harmonious distribution of cut out objects. Itried to use geometric shapes for the most part, but had to include some organic shapes toincorporate Haida symbols, such as the bear that I included. I am happy with the overall turnout, as the repetition of geometric shapes creates movement in the artwork and the work appears balanced and harmonious.

For this assignment, I really struggled using Tinkercad. My teacher told me I was strugglingbecause of my mouse, however I chose this as a challenge to create something uniqueconsidering my difficulties. I chose to create a block full of my first name, Ann. I used about 7different “Ann” texts in different angles and forms. I chose to work with repetition and volume, space, and perspective. I like this project because it has so many different perspectives and itlooks different from every angle.

Clone

For assignment 6, I chose to clone the movie cover from Nope. I recently watched this movie and saw the cover and was amazed by its somberness and dark color. I wanted to use repetition to add to the scene. I chose to duplicate the horses. I used the quick selection tool to highlight the body of the horse and copied and pasted them in a harmonious position. I wanted it to appear as if the observer could see the full motion of the chaotic movement getting sucked up by the UFO. After I had them correctly positioned, I used the blur tool to make them appear natural and a part of the original image. I also copied some of the debris in the background to go around the horses’ bodies and make the image appear fuller.

Recreation

My intention of this assignment was to recreate a portion of the painting of Boticelli’sTheThree Fates.I saw this painting while studying abroadin the Uffizi Museum in Florence. Iwanted to mimic the repetitions of the three fates. I used three different pictures of myself atdifferent angles to look like the positioning of the fates in the original. We dressed up in a whitebed sheet to mimic the togas used in the painting. The placement of the three fates in proximityto the male in the corner creates balance and harmony. As in the painting, I used a picture of thehuge satsuma tree in my backyard at home. I used the picture of the tree as my basebackground layer and created layers on top of it for each additional image. I used the quickselection tool and converted each person outline into a layer and then removed the background.I then blurred them in with the first layer and put a watercolor filter on top to give it a paintingeffect. The blurring created an even more sense of harmony as it brought all the figures togetherto make the picture and figures appear unedited and painting-like. The different positions of thethree girls gives the picture motion and movement and creates a sense of depth as they areplaced in different layers, one on top of the other. The colors of the painting are all neutral andnatural to nature; the only offsetter is the white of the togas which draws emphasis towards thefigures and creates a point of perspective in the middle.
